Labelled as everything from “America’s Mr. Bean” to “worse than Sarah Palin” during his U.K. tour, Mitt Romney tried to put a series of embarrassing missteps behind him today by back-tracking on earlier comments that suggested London wasn’t ready to stage the Olympics.
Olympic legend joins Romney criticism
As if the sharp criticism Mitt Romney has received from the British press during his trip to the UK wasn’t bad enough, the Republican former governor of Massachusetts received a brutal rebuke from an American Olympic legend today.
Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis suggested today that Romney should have stayed at home:
“Every Olympics is ready, I don’t care whatever he said,” the American athletics star told Britain’s Independent newspaper.
“I swear, sometimes I think some Americans shouldn’t leave the country. Are you kidding me? Stay home if you don’t know what to say.”
