Greece’s Largest Telco OTE Selects On Demand Group to Manage On-Demand Television Service

On Demand Group (ODG), a subsidiary of SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC), will provide an outsourced video-on-demand solution to the Hellenic Telecommunication Organisation S.A. (OTE). OTE, Greece’s largest telco with 5 million fixed lines and over 700,000 broadband customers, has plans to extend its service offering and roll-out IPTV services to its customer base.

Who started SeaChange?
SeaChange was co-founded and is led by former leaders of Goldman Sachs, with counsel from other leaders in finance, philanthropy, and the nonprofit world. Charles Harris, a former Partner and Managing Director of Goldman, is SeaChange’s Executive Partner and Chairman of the Board. He co-founded the firm with Robert Steel, formerly a Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs, now an Under Secretary of the U.S. Treasury. Lincoln Caplan, a former journalist, member of the Yale Law School faculty as the Knight Senior Journalist, and management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group, is the firm’s Managing Partner. John Whitehead, formerly Co-Chairman of Goldman Sachs and SeaChange’s Honorary Chairman, proposed the general model for SeaChange and encouraged Charles Harris and Robert Steel to launch the venture.

The flows of philanthropic capital in the United States are substantial, yet many of the beneficial traits of for-profit capital markets are missing in the nonprofit sector. High-performing nonprofit organizations that have proven their effectiveness continue to have limited access to growth capital. We believe these nonprofits should and can be financed with multi-million dollar rounds of funding when they demonstrate their need and readiness to use funds effectively.

What is the relationship between SeaChange and
The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.?
Goldman Sachs made a major grant to SeaChange and is our founding donor. SeaChange is independently incorporated as a nonprofit and independently operated. The model for the relationship is that between Bain & Co., the management consulting firm, and The Bridgespan Group, the nonprofit that counsels foundations and nonprofit organizations. They are both fully independent, with the former supporting the latter in valuable ways.

Tony Kelly

Senior Vice President of SeaChange International, Chief Executive Officer ODG.

Tony Kelly has launched some of the most significant channels and organisations in the new media, and negotiated on their behalf.

He started ODG in 1995 with co-founder and company Chairman Andy Birchall. They have been instrumental in successfully creating all forms of VOD, pay television and PPV over the last two decades.

Tony is responsible for managing the Group, overseeing the major commercial deals and developing corporate structures for the new pay per view and on demand businesses created by the Group with its partners and clients. He has been lead negotiator for all the major PPV contracts to date. He has also worked with a number of high profile pay TV operators including BSB, CanalPlus Belgium, Optus, and Cable and Wireless. In addition, Tony is a founding shareholder of Video Networks Ltd.

Before forming ODG, Tony was CEO of the Palace Group, a major UK independent film producer and distributor. Its critically acclaimed credits included The Crying Game and Scandal. Palace also launched The Power Station, British Satellite Broadcasting’s successful music channel.

Tony was previously Head of Programme Finance at British Satellite Broadcasting (BSB). He was a key negotiator in all programming deals, ranging from film to sports, and has a wealth of contacts in the international entertainment industry.
