Με τις ψήφους των βουλευτών της ΝΔ, του ΠΑΣΟΚ και του ΛΑΟΣ κυρώθηκε χθες από την αρμόδια επιτροπή της Βουλής η συμφωνία για την κατασκευή του ελληνορωσικού αγωγού φυσικού αερίου South Stream, που είχε υπογραφεί στη Μόσχα τον περασμένο Απρίλιο μεταξύ του Βλ. Πούτιν και του Κ. Καραμανλή. Το ΚΚΕ δήλωσε παρών, ενώ καταψήφισε ο ΣΥΡΙΖΑ.

Greek-American Plan to Resolve Macedonia’s Name Issue?

According to reliable sources, on September 23, in the presence of the foreign ministers of both countries, Condolenzza Rice, Secretary of State of the United States of America, will present a plan to resolve a festering dispute between

Greece, its (anti-American)

nominal NATO ally, and Macedonia, a member of the Coalition of the Willing in Iraq and Afghanistan and a NATO aspirant. On September 24, the Plan will be submitted to the United Nations Security Council, probably to be passed as a Resolution.

The Greek newspapers Ta Nea and Elefteros Typos published similar news on August 25 and August 21, respectively.

The Plan has been hatched in a series of secret meetings between Greek and American officials, culminating in a June 2008 conference held in Washington,

involving Rice and Dora Bakoyannis, Greek’s feisty Foreign Minister.

The Macedonian government was kept out of the loop and may still be unaware of the existence of the Plan, let alone its contents.

It seems that the Greeks succeeded to convince the Americans that Macedonia is the intransigent party, piling one obstacle after another, in an attempt to avoid a politically unpopular settlement. Lately, the tiny polity’s young Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski, sought to enlarge the scope of the protracted negotiations to include other bilateral issues, such as the restoration of property to Macedonians expelled from Greece decades ago and the recognition of the Macedonian Orthodox Church by its Greek counterpart.

The Plan includes five elements:

1. The Republic of Macedonia will change its constitutional name

(probably to Northern Macedonia, although that has not been decided yet).

If true, this provision will constitute a major setback for Macedonia. No Macedonian government – let alone the current one – is likely to accept it.

2. Macedonia will be granted a transition period (of up to 10 years, according to some sources) – the time it would need to amend its constitution and to alter its registered name with various international and multilateral institutions.

3. Macedonia will be issued an invitation to join NATO (but not a date to start negotiations with the EU regarding its eventual accession).

4. Both countries will be allowed to use the adjective «Macedonian» (both commercially and non-commercially).

5. The parties will renounce any and all claims to each other’s territory.

The «name issue» involves a protracted dispute over the last 17 years between the two Balkan polities over Macedonia’s right to use its constitutional name, «The Republic of Macedonia». The Greeks claim that Macedonia is a region in Greece and that, therefore, the country Macedonia has no right to monopolize the name and its derivatives («Macedonian»).

The Greeks feel that Macedonians have designs on the part of Greece that borders the tiny, landlocked country and that the use of Macedonia’s constitutional name internationally will only serve to enhance irredentist and secessionist tendencies, thus adversely affecting the entire region’s stability.

Macedonia retorts that it has publicly renounced any claims to any territory of any of its neighbors. Greece is Macedonia’s second largest foreign investor. The disparities in size, military power and geopolitical and economic prowess between the two countries make Greek «fears» appear to be ridiculous. Macedonians have a right to decide how they are to be called, say exasperated Macedonian officials.

The Greek demands are without precedent either in history or in international law. Many countries bear variants of the same name (Yemen, Korea, Germany until 1990, Russia and Byelorussia, Mongolia). Others share their name with a region in another country (Brittany in France and Great Britain across the channel, for instance).

In the alliance’s Bucharest Summit, in April 2008, Macedonia was not invited to join NATO. Macedonia was rejected because it would not succumb to Greek intransigence: Greece insisted that Macedonia should change its constitutional name to cater to Greek domestic political sensitivities.

Thus, Serbia (and its ally, Russia) were left with access to a corridor, through non-NATO Macedonia to

anti-American Greece

and to the sea.

High-placed diplomatic sources in Washington told the Chronicle that the USA will now pressure Macedonia into changing its constitutional name in a way that will be acceptable to Greece and the powerful Greek lobbies in the USA. Should «friendly» persuasion fail, the USA will bare its fangs and may even threaten mild sanctions (the suspension of several military agreements).

Macedonia doesn’t stand a chance of resisting such an onslaught. It will be forced into a humiliating retreat. An invitation to join NATO will promptly follow, in time for its ratification by all the member countries of the moribund Alliance.

Following the country’s ill-advised early elections in June, 2008, the right-wing VMRO-DPMNE was coerced by the international community (read: the EU and the USA) into joining forces with DUI, the political incarnation of erstwhile Albanian insurgents in the northwest of Macedonia, hitherto an anathema as far as Gruevski, the incumbent Prime Minister, was concerned.

Hopping to bed with DUI will likely restrain the government’s freedom of action. Every concession to Greece will be portrayed by jingoistic nationalists in Macedonia as capitulation and the consequence of blackmail by the Albanian parties. To the great consternation of the Macedonians, Albania, Macedonia’s neighbor, has been invited to join NATO. The restive Albanians of Macedonia would like to accede to the Alliance as soon as practicable and at all costs. Understandably, they are less attached to the country’s constitutional name than the non-Albanian (Macedonian) majority.

The Macedonian name issue to be resolved?

According to a recent article by Sam Vaknin in the «American Chronicles» that also appeared in the International Analyst Network, a Greek-American plan is due that will resolve the name dispute between the two states.

It is true that a solution is imminent, but it cannot be classified as a joint Greek & American one, but rather as a final resolution of the American policy that came to realize three important factors over the past few months and «Post-Bucharest»

1) Serbia has made a serious turn in its domestic politics and is committed into being accepted in NATO and the EU. That alone greatly diminishes the role of FYR-Macedonia, as yet another NATO candidate

2) Croatia and Albania already took the ticket for an eventual entrance, thus Skopje’s role is far less significant than it was just few months ago.

3) Greece has enacted a series of high profile initiatives with France, Russia, Israel and China over the past year. Therefore the importance of Athens has been elevated for Washington despite some grievances that are being made by middle-ranking officials that cannot comprehend the new emerging scene and mostly fear for their own professional status rather than any real geopolitical gain-loss at stake.

In essence USA views the issue differently making FYROM more acceptable to a final solution, since any other alternative would be highly undesirable for the domestic audience of the latter.

Sam Vaknin dropped a few lines on a suspicious «Greek-Russian» connection that probably obstructs a final solution and that is against NATO interests and so on and so forth.

Greece functions as a perfect example of a communication terrain between Washington & Moscow, a status that is strongly envied by several of Greece’s neighbors that would like feverously to gain such role, to no avail. Actually in times of crisis like nowadays with the boiling Caucasus issue; Greece provides a stabilizing role by being able to synthesize the Russian-American antithesis and attain a meditative role behind the scenes. After all a new «Cold War» does not benefit anyone apart from the Chinese and Muslim world, therefore the Greek contribution is positive in most respects.

Another facet of the issue is the little dependence that Greece has to Russia in comparison to other countries. It is less depended on Russian energy than Germany or Italy, it hasn’t formed joint venture arms companies with Moscow as Spain or France have, neither does it has sold strategic energy utilities as Austria or Italy have done. Furthermore it is a little known fact that Turkey often perceived as a staunch NATO ally; it has procured Chinese missile systems, whilst it currently negotiates with a Korean firm in order to produce its own Main Battle Tank, one without any NATO technology on it.

Lastly Greece was one of the last countries to enact a sort of energy cooperation with Russia, in 1996, by importing small amounts of natural gas, whilst Italy, Germany and other W. European countries have already commenced such activities since the early ’70’s. In a few words Athens feels confident enough to proceed with certain agreements that will also increase its leverage across Eurasia and will ultimately benefit NATO diplomacy if the latter proves itself smart enough to benefit from the opportunities involved.

USA in particular is an oil-based economy that reined the international economic system due to the cheap oil post-war regime. Diversification of energy sources and gradual disorientation from the Middle East is for the long-term interest of the American economy.

What the Administration in FYROM fails to comprehend is that Greece is the only state in the region that can guarantee its security and by being the largest investor it also helps its fragile economy to keep up in the midst of a terrible world climate. The bulk of FYROM’s international trade passes through the Greek port of Thessaloniki and no Greek official has ever tried to negatively disturb this since 1995, although it could have dome it indirectly by means of «employee slow-down» and other «Non-state» means.

In 2001 Athens helped practically the Skopje government and even sent weapons and assistance in all levels, while it hasn’t started to issue Greek passports to the citizens of FYROM as Bulgaria, Serbia, Turkey and Albania frequently do.

In a wider prism, Greece’s role in issues ranging from Iran, Syria, Lebanon, to cooperation in the anti-narcotics strategy and discreet mediation in several crises between Danube and the Hindu River, has made the country a stabilizing factor par excellence for the world community and the West in particular.  The aforementioned have been taking place under the radar screen in most cases, since the art of diplomacy is one differentiated from that of public relations and has to be of actual substance.

The name issue is one related to history & culture. In general only three ethno-cultural units have retained and preserved their identity, lingual treasure and collective subconscious, since antiquity: The Greeks, the Jews and the Chinese.

That can’t be of a sheer luck, but it has to do with the stamina to preserve one’s Tradition & History.

Am I right on that Sam?

The answer will ultimately reveal and resolve the issue of the «Name» once and for all I presume.

Intel cuts loose with wireless power system

SAN FRANCISCO — Intel on Thursday showed off a wireless electric power system that analysts say could revolutionize modern life by freeing devices from transformers and wall outlets.

Intel chief technology officer Justin Rattner demonstrated a Wireless Energy Resonant Link as he spoke at the California firm’s annual developers forum in San Francisco.

Electricity was sent wirelessly to a lamp on stage, lighting a 60 watt bulb that uses more power than a typical laptop computer.

Most importantly, the electricity was transmitted without zapping anything or anyone that got between the sending and receiving units.

«The trick with wireless power is not can you do it; it’s can you do it safely and efficiently?» Intel researcher Josh Smith said in an online video explaining the breakthrough.

«It turns out the human body is not affected by magnetic fields; it is affected by electric fields. So what we are doing is transmitting energy using the magnetic field not the electric field.»

Examples of potential applications include airports, offices or other buildings that could be rigged to supply power to laptops, mobile telephones or other devices toted into them.

The technology could also be built into plugged in computer components, such as monitors, to enable them to broadcast power to devices left on desks or carried into rooms, according to Smith.

«Initially it eliminates chargers and eventually it eliminates batteries all together,» analyst Rob Enderle of Enderle Group said of Intel’s wireless power system.

«That is potentially a world changing event. This is the closest we’ve had to something being commercially available in this class.»

Previous wireless power systems consisted basically of firing lightning bolts from sending to receiving units.

Smith says Intel’s wireless power system is still in an early stage of development and much research remains before it can be brought to market.

Rattner spoke of technological transformations he expects by the year 2050.

In a recent interview* with Lyn Forester de Rothschild we learn that she and her husband Evelyn de Rothschild are investing hundreds of millions to become the queen and the king of India`s fruits and vegetables. India is already the first world producer of fruits, and the second of vegetables and until today its production was essentially consumed by the over one billion Indian population.

Lyn and Evelyn de Rothschild have recently decided to make big money in exporting the Indian fruits and vegetables to the European and Japanese markets. The diverse agro-climatic zones of India make it possible to grow almost all varieties of fruits and vegetables while the labor cost is a tiny fraction of the European or Japanese: Lady de Rothschild is looking forward to pay the Indian workers $2 a day.

ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΟ ΤΕΚΤΟΝΙΚΟ FORUM

ΕΝΗΜΕΡΩΤΙΚΟ ΔΕΛΤΙΟ – ΜΑΙΟΣ 2008

To  2005 η Ηνωμένη  Μεγάλη Στοά της Αγγλίας, δημιούργησε,  από το μηδέν,  με μεγάλη φροντίδα και ταχύτητα μια νέα Μεγάλη Στοά, σ’ ένα νέο μικρό κράτος της Ευρώπης και έσπευσε να εγκαταστήσει με πανηγυρικούς τύπους, αλλά και να αναγνωρίσει άμεσα. Οι διεθνείς τεκτονικοί κύκλοι παρατήρησαν ότι κάτι τέτοιο, η ΗΜΣΤΑ κάνει κάθε εκατό χρόνια.  Το όνομα με το οποίο αναγνωρίσθηκε αυτή η μεγάλη Στοά δεν ταυτίζεται με το όνομα του κράτους, στο οποίο ανήκει και με το οποίο το κράτος αυτό συμμετέχει στον Ο.Η.Ε..  Το κράτος αυτό στον Ο.Η.Ε.  ονομάζεται  F.Y.R.O.M., αλλά η Μεγάλη Στοά του, που δημιουργήθηκε και αναγνωρίσθηκε εσπευσμένα και  από το τίποτα, ονομάζεται Μεγάλη Στοά της Μακεδονίας.

Όλοι αντιλαμβάνονται τη σημασία των ενεργειών των Άγγλων. Το πρόβλημα όμως δεν είναι τα συμφέροντα των Άγγλων. Το μέγα πρόβλημα του Ελληνικού Τεκτονισμού είναι ότι δεν αντέδρασε. Εκπρόσωποι Ελληνικών Τεκτονικών Μεγάλων δυνάμεων συμμετείχαν σε διεθνή  fora, μαζί με εκπρόσωπους της Μεγάλης Στοάς της γειτονικής χώρας και δεν αντέδρασαν για το όνομα ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ,  όταν και στην τελευταία μουσική αθλητική διεθνή συνάντηση, οι Έλληνες αξίωναν και πετύχαιναν τη συμμετοχή των εκπροσώπων της γείτονος,  με το όνομα που είναι ενταγμένη στον Ο.Η.Ε.

Η διοίκηση της Μεγάλης Στοάς της Ελλάδος, επί πολλούς μήνες,  ερωτάται τι έχει κάνει με το θέμα του ονόματος της Μεγάλης Στοάς της  F.Y.R.O.M. και σιωπά.

Η Ελληνική κοινωνία επί χρόνια παρακολουθεί και αξιολογεί. Ο Ελληνικός Τεκτονισμός από την ίδρυσή του έχει έντονο πατριωτικό και κοινωνικό προσανατολισμό. Η γενικευμένη και αποφασιστική συμμετοχή του Ελληνικού Ελευθεροτεκτονισμού στον Μακεδονικό Αγώνα έχει καταγραφεί από την ιστορία και αποτελεί παρακαταθήκη και περηφάνεια για τους Έλληνες Τέκτονες.  Τα ίδια ισχύουν και για τον Κρητικό Αγώνα όπου η ιστορία καταγράφει “Μεγάλην επί του ζητήματος ήσκησεν επιρροήν εν Ευρώπη και Αμερική, ο Τεκτονισμός.  Αι διαμαρτυρίαι  των Ελευθέρων Τεκτόνων εκδηλούμεναι ομαδικώς και προσυπογραφόμεναι  υπό βουλευτών και ανεγνωρισμένου διεθνούς κύρους επιστημόνων εχαρακτηρίζοντο εν Ελλάδι ως γεγονότα εξαιρετικής πολιτικής σημασίας.

Ο Τεκτονισμός καθ’  όλην την διάρκειαν της σκληράς εκείνης κρίσεως επεδείξατο ενάρετον αλληλεγγύην και έπραξε μετ’  ηθικής και θερμουργότητος  παν ότι επέτρεπον αι δυνάμεις αυτού…(Γεωργίου Ασπρέα Πολιτική Ιστορία Της Νεωτέρας Ελλάδος Α’  βραβείο Ακαδημίας Αθηνών)”

Τα κάστρα πάντα εκπορθούνται έσωθεν.

Οι διοικήσεις των Ελληνικών Τεκτονικών σωμάτων, κατά τα τελευταία σαράντα,  περίπου χρόνια ήσαν,  κατά κανόνα,  ανίκανες και κατώτατες των περιστάσεων.  Γι’ αυτό τα εργαστήρια οδηγήθηκαν στην ερημία και το Τάγμα στο σχίσμα και στην περιθωριοποίηση. Απέτυχαν κυρίως να καλλιεργήσουν και να προβάλλουν την Εθνική και κοινωνική προσφορά και διάσταση του Τάγματος. Απέτυχαν να εμπνεύσουν και να προσελκύσουν εκλεκτούς και δημιουργούς της κοινωνίας μας και βέβαια οι ελάχιστες εξαιρέσεις επιβεβαιώνουν την παντοδυναμία του κανόνα.

Εθνική προσφορά δεν είναι μόνο να καταθέτεις ένα στεφάνι στο μνημείο του Ξάνθου και κοινωνική προσφορά δεν είναι μόνο να δωρίζεις χρήματα. Είναι κοινά αποδεκτό ότι τα εργαστήριά μας, που κάποτε ήσαν γεμάτα από αδελφούς, τώρα μετά βίας συγκεντρώνουν λίγους,  που πολλές φορές δεν μπορούν να ανοίξουν εργασίες.

Όλοι πια γνωρίζουν ότι στα εργαστήριά μας δεν θα συναντήσουν και τους πρωταγωνιστές  του κοινωνικού βίου και ότι  το Τάγμα έχει αποκοπεί πλήρως από τα λεγόμενα μέσα και ψηλά κοινωνικά στρώματα.

«…Αφελείς συμβολαιογράφοι και ανίδεοι μικροβιολόγοι που παίζουν με τα σπαθάκια και τις ποδίτσες τους…» έγραφε κορυφαίος Έλληνας χρονογράφος πριν τριάντα χρόνια. Δεν θέλω να σκεφτώ τι θα έγραφε σήμερα.

Την ώρα που η Μεγάλη Ανατολή της Ιταλίας επιτυγχάνει την έκδοση ιστορικών αποφάσεων του Ευρωπαϊκού Δικαστηρίου Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων,  την ώρα που η Μεγάλη Στοά της Αυστρίας καλείται να συμμετάσχει στις εργασίες για την αναθεώρηση του Συντάγματος της χώρας,  την ώρα που η Μεγάλη Ανατολή της Γαλλίας συνεχίζει να πρωτοπορεί σε ευρύτερα κοινωνικά θέματα και ο Μεγάλος Διδάσκαλός της αντιμετωπίζεται ως αρχηγός κράτους (βλ.  πρόσφατη επίσκεψή του στον πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας της Αλβανίας),  οι μοιραίες διοικήσεις του Ελληνικού Τεκτονισμού βιώνουν την ερημία του περιθωρίου.  (Ακόμη και το Μονομελές Πρωτοδικείο Αθηνών τους «απέπεμψε» το Δεκέμβρη του 2007).  Η κριτική μας δεν είναι τόσο σκληρή όσο η πραγματικότητα.

Απευθυνόμαστε στους λίγους πραγματικούς Έλληνες Ελευθεροτέκτονες που έχουν πια απομείνει σ’  αυτή τη χώρα και τους ζητούμε να αντιδράσουν.  Ο καθένας μας ας γίνει ένας πανίσχυρος πομπός του Εθνικού μηνύματος σ’  όλο το κόσμο και να ενημερώσει για την αδικία σε βάρος της Ελλάδας.  Ήδη οι φιλέλληνες ενημερώνονται και αντιδρούν.  Η περίπτωση της δήλωσης Σαρκοζί  μας δείχνει ότι ο αγώνας δεν χάθηκε.

Οι Τεκτονικές δυνάμεις όλου του κόσμου και οι πνευματικοί άνθρωποι,  που είναι μέλη τους,  ας ενημερωθούν για τις ενέργειες της παρούσας διοίκησης της Ηνωμένης Μεγάλης Στοάς της Αγγλίας και για τον τρόπο που αντιλαμβάνεται και χρησιμοποιεί το Τάγμα.

Κάτι θα γνωρίζουν και αυτοί.

Σ’  αυτούς που υποκλίνονται και υποκρίνονται με άλλοθι τα της μη ανάμιξης σε πολιτικά θέματα και άλλες προστακτικές ευήθειες αποικιοκρατικής νοοτροπίας του περασμένου αιώνα,  αφιερώνουμε τμήματα της νουβέλλας του Μεγάλου Λογοτέχνη και Ελευθεροτέκτονα που γεννήθηκε στην Ινδία και μυήθηκε σε Αγγλική Στρατιωτική Στοά εκεί, του Ρ. Κίπλινγκ, που στην Ελλάδα έγινε γνωστός από τις εξαίσιες μεταφράσεις ενός μεγάλου Ελευθεροτέκτονα και ιδεολόγου κομουνιστή, του Νίκου Καρβούνη.

Istanbul Bilgi University will cooperate with a Greek foundation in an effort to foster Greek-Turkish friendship by offering support to students pursuing studies of the two countries.

The agreement foresees a two-year collaboration during the two academic years between 2008 and 2010, according to a press release by the Kokkalis Foundation. The foundation will support Greek-Turkish studies at Bilgi University by offering scholarships and fellowships to students pursuing masters degrees in international relations concentrating on Greek-Turkish relations.

Ramadan Unites Balkan Muslims

BALKAN CAPITALS — In a show of unity, Muslim religious authorities in Bosnian, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Slovenia have agreed to observe the start of the holy fasting month of Ramadan on September 1.

«We follow astronomical calculations to determine the beginning of the lunar months,» Subhi Wassim, an official with the Islamic Sheikdom of Bosnia, told IslamOnline.net.

«Therefore, the first day of Ramadan will be observed in Bosnia on September 1,» he added.

Muslims make up nearly 40 percent of Bosnia’s 3.8 million population.

During Ramadan, adult Muslims, save the sick and those traveling, abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex between dawn and sunset.

Neighboring Serbia’s nearly half a million Muslim will start the dawn-to-dusk fast on the same day as Bosnia.

«We consider ourselves part of the Islamic institution in Bosnia and coordinate with them in all things,» said Hajrudin Balic, a media officer of the Islamic Sheikdom of Serbia.

The Islamic Sheikdom in Croatia will also follow neighboring Bosnia in observing the beginning of Ramadan, said sources in the Islamic Sheikdom of Bosnia.

Moon sighting has always been a controversial issue among Muslim countries, and even scholars seem at odds over the issue.

While one group of scholars sees that Muslims in other regions and countries are to follow the same moon sighting as long as these countries share one part of the night, another states that Muslims everywhere should abide by the lunar calendar of Saudi Arabia.

A third, however, disputes both views, arguing that the authority in charge of ascertaining the sighting of the moon in a given country announces the sighting of the new moon, then Muslims in the country should all abide by this.

Unity

Muslims who make up 33 percent of Macedonia’s two million population will follow Turkey in determining the start of Ramadan.

«The Islamic Sheikhdom of Macedonia and Dar al-Ifta in Turkey have an agreement to unify all Islamic occasions according to astronomic calculations,» Afrim Alija, a teacher in a school affiliated to the sheikdom, told IOL.

Turkey’s Presidency of Religion Affairs, the country’s highest religious institution, has announced on its website that Ramadan will fall on September 1.

The Islamic sheikhdom of Slovenia, where Muslims make up 2.4 percent of two million population, agrees with Turkey and Bosnia on the start of the fasting month.

Montenegro Mufti Jusuf Gjoken said the country’s 140,000 Muslims, who constitute up to 20 percent of the population, will coordinate with both Bosnia and Turkey on Ramadan start.

«We are living in neighboring countries and it would be wrong to disagree on the beginning of the fast,» he told IOL.

«The unity of Muslims in the Balkan is a top priority to all Islamic sheikhdoms in the region.»
