NATO Terrorists Target Syria & Algeria

NATO’s Pan-Arab Terrorist Blitzkrieg.
by Tony Cartalucci

August 29, 2012 – Western policy makers admit that NATO’s operations in Libya have played the primary role in emboldening Al Qaeda’s AQIM faction (Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb). The Fortune 500-funded Brookings Institution’s Bruce Riedel in his article, «The New Al Qaeda Menace,» admits that AQIM is now heavily armed thanks to NATO’s intervention in Libya, and that AQIM’s base in Mali, North Africa, serves as a staging ground for terrorist activities across the region.

Image: NATO’s intervention in Libya has resurrected listed-terrorist organization and Al Qaeda affiliate, LIFG. It had previously fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, and now has fighters, cash and weapons, all courtesy of NATO, spreading as far west as Mali, and as far east as Syria. The feared «global Caliphate» Neo-Cons have been scaring Western children with for a decade is now taking shape via US-Saudi, Israeli, and Qatari machinations, not «Islam.» In fact, real Muslims have paid the highest price in fighting this real «war against Western-funded terrorism.»

….

AQIM, like their Libyan counterparts, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) are both listed by the US State Department as «Foreign Terrorist Organizations.» Likewise, both the UK Home Office (.pdf, listed as GSPC) and the UN recognize both organizations as terrorists.

Despite this, military intervention in Libya was pursued by the West and condoned by the UN with full knowledge that the militants leading so-called «pro-democracy uprisings» were in fact merely the continuation of decades of violent terrorism carried out by Al Qaeda affiliates. The West had full knowledge of this, primarily because it was Western intelligence agencies arming and supporting these militants for the last 30 years, in Libya’s case, while coddling their leaders in Washington and London.

Additionally, the US Army itself meticulously documented foreign terrorists fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, noting that the highest percentage per capita emanated from Libya’s cities of Benghazi and Darnah, the so-called «cradle» of 2011’s «pro-democracy uprisings» in Libya.

….

What unfolded was a premeditated lie – where placard waving «activists» overnight turned into battle-hardened heavily armed, tank driving, jet flying militants waging a nationwide battle against Libyan leader, Muammar Qaddafi. In reality, it was the fruition of 30 years of covert support the West has poured into militant groups across the region – support that would not end with the fall of Qaddafi.

Image: Libyan terrorist manning a tank during NATO’s 2011 overthrow of the Libyan government. The media expects the public to believe placard waving peaceful demonstrators had somehow, in just days, transitioned into tank driving, jet flying rebel forces – just like in Hollywood.
….

LIFG terrorists promptly turned both east to Syria and west to Mali beyond their borders – a logistical matter they had perfected during their operations in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past decade. LIFG commander Abdul Hakim Belhaj, as early as November 2011, arrived on the Turkish-Syrian border to provide cash, weapons, and LIFG terrorist fighters, overseen by Western intelligence along with US funding and arms laundered through Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) members such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Since then Libyan militants have been confirmed to be leading entire brigades of foreign fighters inside Syria.

And as Bruce Riedel of Brookings concedes, these weapons went west to Mali as well. Algeria had feared just such a scenario unfolding with NATO’s intervention in Libya – a fear now fully realized. Ironically, Riedel, in August 2011, had tried to make a case for Algeria being «next to fall» in an article titled literally, «Algeria Will Be Next to Fall

A year ago, Riedel attempted to argue that it would be the so-called «Arab Spring» that would spread into Algeria after having taken root in neighboring Libya. He had eluded to, and it has now become abundantly clear, that by  «Arab Spring,» Riedel meant, US-backed subversion, and more specifically NATO-armed Al Qaeda-brand militancy and terrorism.

With the US now openly arming, supporting, and literally «cheering» Al Qaeda in Syria, it is clear that the «War on Terror» is an unprecedented geopolitical fraud perpetuated at the cost of millions of lives destroyed and an incalculable social and economic toll. NATO, with full knowledge of the consequences is literally carving out of North Africa and the Middle East, the so-called «Caliphate» Western leaders had held over their impressionable people’s heads as the impetus to perpetually wage global war. Torn from the pages of Orwell’s 1984, an artificial war has been created to carry forward corporate-financier machinations both abroad and domestically. The so-called threat to Western civilization is in fact a foreign legion of Western corporate-financier interests, executing Wall Street and London’s foreign policy on a global scale where and in a manner traditional Western forces cannot.

NATO’s terrorist blitzkrieg across the Arab World will not end in Syria. It will continue, if allowed, into Iran, through the Caucasus Mountains and into Russia, across China’s western borders, and even across Southeast Asia. The price for ignorance, apathy, and complicity in supporting the West’s so-called «War on Terror» will ironically reap all the horrors and then some in reality, that were promised to us if we didn’t fight this «Long War.»

Our support of both the political gambits of our politicians, as well as our daily patronage of the corporate-financier interests driving this agenda have already reaped an unprecedented and still growing regional safe haven for terrorists – and as moderate secular governments continue to be undermined and toppled, we can only imagine the blowback, retaliation, and other consequences as this destructive foreign policy unfolds. To imagine that such meddling will not end up being visited back upon us, even if in the form of a false flag attack dwarfing 9/11, would be folly.

Already, we are suffering economic devastation and an increasingly stifling security apparatus at home, and as long as we capitulate to this current agenda instead of asserting a more rational one of our own, it will only get worse.

US uses contractors to bypass international humanitarian laws — RT

(AFP Photo/Marwan Naamani)

The use of private contractors allows the US to evade responsibility for violations of international humanitarian legislation, a top Russian diplomat for human rights and democracy said.

The comment came from Foreign Ministry Commissioner Konstantin Dolgov as the US Justice Department halted an investigation into the attempted bribing of Iraqi police officials by employees of the Blackwater security company (re-branded as ‘Academi’ in late 2011).

Blackwater attempted to pay $1 million in bribes for new contracts in Iraq, and also to block an investigation into the 2007 murder of 17 Iraqi civilians, including several children, by Blackwater operatives, a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website said.

The US State Department didn’t end its relationship with Blackwater for two years after the tragedy, Dolgov said.

“Despite the scandalous experience with the Blackwater company, the US military and foreign policy agencies continue to attract contractors for doing the ‘dirty work’ in the zone of armed conflicts,” Dolgov said. “Such outsourcing of state functions to private firms allows the US government to evade the responsibility for violation of international humanitarian norms.”

“The Blackwater case is a vivid example of impunity enjoyed by the employees of private security companies, despite blatant violations of international Human Rights standards. The current situation is a result of the inconsistent and selective actions of the US authorities, who ignore the rights of Iraqis who fall victim to the employees of private security companies. We expect that the US authorities will at last take some measures to punish the responsible contractors of the company formerly known as Blackwater,” the statement read.

Dolgov added that a US court had sentenced Russian citizen Viktor Bout to 25 years in prison for his alleged intention to sell weapons to Colombian rebels, while the “company that succeeded Blackwater” received no punishment after confessing to illegally supplying weapons to Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan. “Is not it a very visual demonstration of double standards used by the US justice?” he said.

The jury is still out whether Israel will or will not attack Iran, despite the endless and relentless (dis)information in the media from all sides, and certainly when such an attack might happen, but if it did take place, these are all the logistically possible formats what an airborne attack could look like.

Via Stratfor:

A unilateral strike on the Iranian nuclear program is not Israel’s preferred option. However, if Israel does decide to proceed with the mission unilaterally, the different routes the strike package could take each pose unique challenges. Currently, the Israeli air force has three principal routes to its targets in Iran. The first route involves flying northward over the eastern Mediterranean Sea between Cyprus and Syria, and then proceeding eastward along the Turkey-Syria border, flying through northern Iraq and into Iran. This route circumvents Syria’s air defense network, which was built to cover its western flank against an Israeli air attack. The second route is the shortest and involves flying directly over Jordan and Iraq to reach Iran. Due to the shorter distance, the likelihood that Jordan could be deterred from interfering with the strike package, and the absence of any viable Iraqi air defense, this route probably poses the least risk. The third route goes through northern Saudi Arabia, over the Persian Gulf and into Iran. While most of Saudi Arabia’s air defenses and air bases are oriented toward the Persian Gulf and the main cities to the south, Israeli planes would almost certainly be detected, especially since they would have to fly near Tabuk’s air base. If Riyadh did choose to intercept the Israeli aircraft, the Israeli air force would face serious complications because Saudi Arabia has a large number of advanced interceptor aircraft. As the war in Syria intensifies, another route may become viable. Rebel operations have already negatively affected the Syrian regime’s air defenses somewhat. If this trend intensifies, the country’s air defense network may be degraded to the extent that the Israeli air force would be able to fly directly over Syria without undue risk to its aircraft.

Of course, if the US were to engage alongside Israel, presidential elections notwithstanding, and the numerous US aircraft carriers stationed in the Gulf and the Arabian Sea were to participate in any offensive, then all predictive bets are off. One thing is certain: it is, at least in Israel’s view, that the window of attack is rapidly closing, which may explain why crude is once again trading on edge every single day, and why gas at the pump, has once again never been more expensive on this day in history, a fact which the Romney camp will certainly hone in on soon to quite soon.

Igor Ignatchenko – Sentenced to Extermination – Strategic Culture Foundation – on-line journal > Sentenced to Extermination > Strategic-Culture.org – Strategic Culture Foundation

Posted by satyrikon στο 6 Αυγούστου, 2012

The clouds gather over the Middle East. Not so long ago the clashes between the Sunni Muslims, who support the Free Syrian Army, and the Alawites, who stand by the government of Syrian president Bashar Assad, took place in Tripoli, the second largest city of Lebanon. Fighting also took place in the capital Beirut. Speaking at the press-conference on May 23 Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said the Syrian conflict may spread to the territory of neighboring Lebanon.

It’s a long time ago the northern part of Lebanon became the main transition route for delivering arms to Syrian militants, fighting the legitimate government of Syrian President. The border between Lebanon and Syria is used by Western special services as a passageway for getting special operations units and militants inside Syria. Formally Lebanon takes a neutral position on the Syrian crisis. But the opposition leader Saad al-Hariri openly supports the adversaries of President Bashar Assad, some sources say he is involved in arms supplies to the Syrian insurgents. According to French Le Figaro, there is a smoothly running system of providing funds to terrorists on the territory of Syria. Its center is situated in Lebanese Tripoli. The network faces no problem of funds shortage, it exists at the expense of the Persian Gulf monarchies, in particular the Eid Charity Foundation under the control of Saudi national Safar al-Hawali, Walid Tabtabi from Kuwait and Abdul Rahman al-Naimi from Qatar.

. The operation aimed at eliminating Syria is in full swing, it has already moved to the final stage. According to the CNN the US military instructors prepare the special operations forces of Jordan to capture government buildings and overthrow the Syrian government. The “Eager Lion-2012” military exercises started in Jordan in the middle of May bringing together up to 11 thousand special operations troops from 19 Arab and European countries. The exercise is led by the US Central Command. Besides Jordan hosts the US army units that have left Iraq and the militants who came back from Libya to get more training by Jordanian, Saudi and Pakistani instructors.

The exacerbation of the situation in Syria and Lebanon since 2011 is part of the New Greater Middle East concept elaborated long ago by the US “think tanks”. It envisages changing borders in the Middle and Near East. It was expounded in the monograph Strategic Geography and the Changing Middle East by Geoffrey Kemp and Robert Harkavy in the days of Bill Clinton in 1997. Right after the 9/11 2001 Washington started to ponder over the Middle East “redrawing”. US reporter Garrett Porter informed that three weeks after the terrorist acts of 9/11, 2001 then Defense Secretary Donald Ramsfeld came up with a new military strategy, that included as goals the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, and then toppling regimes in Syria, Iran and four other Middle East countries. The concept was strongly supported by such a well known neocon as Paul Wolfowitz.

The Porter’s assessment was based on the report by Douglas Feight, a Rumsfeld’s subordinate that emphasized that the idea to redraw the Middle East map by military means was supported by the entire US military establishment. In his book War and Decision Feight included fragments of the report sent by Rumsfeld to then President George Bush on September 30, 2001 calling for focusing on bringing to power “new regimes” in some Arab countries.

The Feight’s words are supported by US retired General Wesley Clark. In his book Winning Modern Wars he said a friend of his who was in the Pentagon at the time said in November 2001 that the Defense Department list of countries where governments were to be overthrown included Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Somalia. The very same countries mentioned by Clark were included into the Rumsfeld’s report published on September 30, 2001 (referred to by Feight).

Formally then President George Bush, Junior came out with the Greater Middle East concept on November 6, 2003 before the National Endowment for Democracy. The occupation of Iraq was to be the first stage of a long struggle for “the victory of democracy” in the Greater Middle East. The list of authors of the concept included Henry Kissinger, Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz.

Before G8 summit in June 2004 in Sea Island, Georgia, Washington published a working document Partnership for Progress and a Common Future with the Region of the Broader Middle East and North Africa. Back then Washington failed to receive support for the US way “democratization” of the Middle East. But the US political ruling top never refused the idea and in July 2006 the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced a regional rebuilding plan.

The US leading think tanks had spent a number of years to come up with the plan. The goal of the Greater Middle East concept is creating chaos in the region that would make appear an axis of instability from Lebanon, Palestine to Syria, Iraq, the Persian Gulf states, Iran up to the border with Afghanistan. Besides the Anglo-Saxon military “road map” appears to encompass the whole post Soviet Central Asia, a region to link the unstable Middle East with even more unstable Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A relatively little known map of the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan started to go around in US government and military circles since the middle of 2006. It was prepared by Lieutenant Colonel Ralf Peters from the National Defense University. His last active service assignment was to the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence. He is one of the most well known strategy experts with military background. The Map of the Middle East with his notes saw light in June 2006 in the Armed Forces Journal, that is right on the eve of the loud statements by Condoleezza Rice. The article was called Blood borders: How a better Middle East would look. Never Quit the Fight, the main book by the author that was published in July 2006, was based on the same Map. The US media reported that the four previous books by the author were popular among US government and military circles.

As Ralph Peters saw it, a part of Syria was to be taken away to join “Free Kurdistan”and Sunni Iraq, the Syrian sea shore areas were to become part of Lebanon. Syria was to terminate its existence as a state.

There was an alternative map by prepared by a US Pentagon associated professor Michael F. Davie from Université François-Rabelais. In his work on the reconstruction of Middle East he mentioned the “axis of evil”, formally recognized by the USA, including Sudan, Iraq and Syria. The Michael Davie’s map doesn’t include the territory of Syria in its present day borders: instead there is a small state of Alawites at the sea shore, while Syria itself becomes part of a “new entity” formed together with the Iraqi Sunni. As Davie sees it, the Golan heights would become part of Israel as a result of liquidation of Syria as a sovereign state. Besides a new Palestinian state is going to become established on the territory of contemporary Jordan in exchange for Israel’s refusal to claim East Jerusalem. Lebanon is to be divided into two states: one belonging to the Shiites, another to the Maronites.

There is one more Middle and Near East division map published by the Vanity Fair magazine. It reflects the views of four experts: Dennis Ross, a diplomat with Middle East experience, David Fromkin, a historian, political scholars Kenneth Pollak and Daniel Byman. The idea is as follows. First: The division of Saudi Arabia and Iraq is a must. Second: Egypt is to be divided into two states – an urban area in the Nile delta and the western tribal area. Third, Kuwait and Qatar to be part of the United Arab Emirates to establish a new liberal state on the territory. At last, fourth, the Levant in the eastern part of the Mediterranean is to be a zone belonging to no nation.

The Arab Persian Gulf based TV channels hostile to Syria offer their own map of Syria after Assad. It also envisages the country’s division: a Kurds state in the North, a state of the Druze in the South and a Sunni state in the heart of it. The headquarters of radical groupings calling for a new revolution in Egypt have been searched recently. As a result the “corrected” versions of the Middle East maps have been produced. They have been made public by Al-Ahram and other Egyptian media outlets.

Syria has great role in the US plans. There are only three out of twenty Mediterranean states that are not NATO members and are not tied to the Alliance by “partnership programs». They are Libya, Lebanon and Syria. Libya has already fallen down under the NATO’s strikes, now it’s the turn of Syria and Lebanon. It’s an occasion than then Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said the Middle East has three repressive regimes: Libya, Syria. Iran. The Where to Invade Next? publication edited by Stephen Elliott and inspired by actual Pentagon documents also lists Syria and Iran among US potential targets.

So, NATO and its Arab allies have already sentenced Syria to dismemberment. The “Arab Spring” gave an impetus to the US plans to redraw the Middle East borders and to the policy of Controlled Chaos worked out in the US Santa-Fe institute. The plans presuppose that the Syria’s downfall will weaken Iran and divert the world attention from the repressions taking place in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain (the both countries – key regional allies of the USA). It’s symptomatic that the talks are already in the air. It is said that Saudi Arabia is to engulf Bahrain, all Shiites are going to be evicted from the territory of the newly formed state. That’s the issue that topped the agenda of the last session of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council. In the meantime the occupation of Bahrain by Saudi military goes on – their presence there lasts for the whole year and there is no sign they are going to leave.

Explosion interrupts Iraq’s oil flow to Turkey

Iraq’s oil flow to Turkey has been interrupted after a blast hit an oil pipeline in southeastern Turkish province of Mardin, authorities say.

The overnight blast hit the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline in Mardin Province close to Turkey’s border with Syria, AFP quoted an unnamed energy ministry official as saying on Monday.

The incident is believed to be an act of sabotage by the rebel Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK).

Firefighters have now put out the fire. Turkish authorities say repairs are expected to take up to 10 days.

The pipeline has been attacked several times in the past with the separatist PKK claiming responsibility for some of them. In July 21, Iraq’s oil flow to Turkey was cut for days after a fire erupted in the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline. Turkish officials blamed PKK rebels for the explosion.

The pipeline has also been repeatedly attacked by insurgents inside Iraq since the US-led invasion of the country in 2003.

The 970-kilometre pipeline runs from Iraq’s northern oil hub of Kirkuk to the port of Ceyhan on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast and pumps an estimated 450,000 to 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

‘World being readied for aggression against Syria’ — RT

World opinion is being orchestrated towards a military operation against the Syrian regime, researcher and author F. William Engdahl told RT. Still, any decisive action against Assad will be postponed until after the US presidential election.

The international forces supporting regime change in Syria are continuing to mount pressure on the Assad regime, whipping up the fact that the country possesses chemical weapons. Despite the Syrian government’s firm assurance these weapons will never be used in the internal conflict, countries supporting Syrian opposition are openly discussing plans to take Syria’s chemical weapons stockpiles under their control.

Since control could be established only by physical presence of some sort of military force at the sites where the weapons are kept, foreign intervention into the country would be necessary.

Syria’s ex-ambassador to Iraq, who defected to the opposition, has claimed the Assad regime may have already used chemical weapons.

F. William Engdahl, the author of «Myths, Lies and Oil Wars» says all allegations the chemical weapons in Syria have already been used – or will be in the future – serve the single purpose of paving the way for intervention.

Chemical weapons are not precise and could not be used in residential quarters where most of the fighting in Syria is going on. They are “for huge battle field conditions,” insists Engdahl, because “you’ll [poison] your supporters as well as Al-Qaeda mercenaries,” he explains.

Actually, the situation with chemical weapons in Syria is a déjà vu of the hysteria over the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq a decade ago, believes the researcher.

“I smell a re-run of the old Pentagon scenario that Dick Cheney and friends ran to justify the war in Iraq,” Engdahl states. “And now they’re trying to do that with the chemical warfare weapons of mass destruction in Syria, to create a climate that this is the most pressing thing on the face of the Earth. And this is simply not the case.”

The historian wonders how many times it will take for people to wise up to the fact that the WMD hysteria was scripted in the RAND Corporation (American think tank) for Pentagon which put it into its “how-to” manuals.

“They are just toppling one regime after another to create their ‘grand design’. This is not the way toward democracy. This is a way toward a one superpower tyranny,” slams Engdahl.

The efforts to expose the Assad regime as a brutal one are going along the same lines as the media smear campaign against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in Libya a year ago. Just like in Libya, the Syrian regime is now being accused of using fighter jets against rebels, without any evidence whatsoever being produced. In Libya the alleged use of its air force led to a UN-sanctioned no-fly zone over the country and ultimately the direct military interference of Western democracies into the internal conflict of a sovereign state.

“We’re just watching the orchestration of images being played on to the world opinion,” acknowledged Engdahl. “This is exactly what happened in Libya –‘we must do something’ and ‘humanitarian intervention’ and so forth,” he explained. “Frankly, I don’t think that that is a reality.”

Engdahl believes that “establishing a no-fly zone over Syria now is not feasible given the massive and effective aircraft defenses that Syria has.”

The Syrian conflict will be kept “on a hot burn” until after the presidential elections in the US, he shared.

“Whether Israel, for reasons of its own, in wanting to tip the US elections toward Mitt Romney and away from Obama – whom [Israeli PM Benjamin] Netanyahu despises personally and politically – that I can’t say. I’m not privileged to have inside information on Israeli intent, if they are going to try to hot up this chemical weapons scenario to create the rush toward war,” said Engdahl.

“I think we’re going to see a huge escalation of all of this after the November elections and January oath of office of the next US president,” he concluded. “Obama doesn’t want this breaking into an open war before the election. The last thing American voters want to see is another Iraq or Afghanistan on their doorstep.”

British media, NATO and UN hype up emotions on the Turkish incident « Eyre International – Bringing You The News No One Else Wants To Bring You

British media, NATO and UN hype up emotions on the Turkish incident

What we are looking at right now is clearly a possible “False Flag” incident to justify an action against Syria when the shooting down of the Turkish Air Force Phantom jet fighter was perfectly legitimate under international law and UN guidelines on the rules of engagement.

The BBC carried the following headline in its biased coverage of this incident when it said:

Turkey calls NATO meeting on warplane downed by Syria – Turkey has called a meeting of NATO member states to discuss its response to the shooting down of one of its warplanes by Syrian forces on Friday.

Ankara has invoked Article 4 of NATO charter, under which consultations can be requested when an ally feels their security is threatened, officials say.

Earlier, Turkey’s foreign minister said the F-4 Phantom was in international airspace when it was shot down.

I find this entire episode truly getting very much out of control with even the Turkish Government now changing their story since the incident on Friday and even in this same BBC article one can read Turkey´s Foreign Ministry stating:  It knew the coordinates of the jet, which was in Syrian territorial waters at a depth of 1,300m (4,265ft), but has not yet found it………..so why the hype and why is this escalating into a possible armed conflict between NATO – Syria and why has the  UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon today expressed “his deep concern” about the incident.
