Γιατί η Τουρκία θέλει να εισβάλει στα ελληνικά νησιά-Why Turkey Wants To Invade The Greek Islands

Posted by satyrikon στο 1 Μαρτίου, 2018

Turkey leaves NATO and Putin behind on the way to the Red Sea

Posted by satyrikon στο 19 Φεβρουαρίου, 2018

Turkey has been a staunch NATO member for almost 70 years. As it appears, though, Turkey no longer wants to keep its membership in the alliance. This is evidenced by the recent inconclusive visit of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Ankara. Is NATO going to let Turkey go? Turkey is de facto no…

ΤΑ ΕΠΙΜΑΧΑ ΚΑΙ ΠΙΟ ΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΠΤΙΚΑ ΚΟΜΜΑΤΙΑ

Ahmet Davutolu: “Prime Minister said that in current conjuncture, this attack (on Suleiman Shah Tomb) must be seen as an opportunity for us.”

Hakan Fidan: “I’ll send 4 men from Syria, if that’s what it takes. I’ll make up a cause of war by ordering a missile attack on Turkey; we can also prepare an attack on Suleiman Shah Tomb if necessary.”

Feridun Sinirliolu: “Our national security has become a common, cheap domestic policy outfit.”

Ya?ar Güler: “It’s a direct cause of war. I mean, what’re going to do is a direct cause of war.”

Feridun Sinirolu: There are some serious shifts in global and regional geopolitics. It now can spread to other places. You said it yourself today, and others agreed… We’re headed to a different game now. We should be able to see those. That ISIL and all that jazz, all those organizations are extremely open to manipulation. Having a region made up of organizations of similar nature will constitute a vital security risk for us. And when we first went into Northern Iraq, there was always the risk of PKK blowing up the place. If we thoroughly consider the risks and substantiate… As the general just said…

Yaar Güler: Sir, when you were inside a moment ago, we were discussing just that. Openly. I mean, armed forces are a “tool” necessary for you in every turn.

Ahmet Davutolu: Of course. I always tell the Prime Minister, in your absence, the same thing in academic jargon, you can’t stay in those lands without hard power. Without hard power, there can be no soft power.

Since 2010 and the beginning of the Greek debt crisis which has resulted in an outright economic depression in the country, the Greek security services have investigated around the potential of extremist groups, in this particular case, Albanian ones; taking advantage of the situation for either criminal or nationalistic purposes. The research has provided data of increased importation of armaments into the country, as well as, the formation of close-knit potential extremist groups within the Greek territory that are for the moment in communication with other cells in Albania and elsewhere.
In late August 2012, a video that briefly aired on YouTube showed a band of around 5 Albanians in a mountainous location near Kukes in Albania, firing against a Greek flag with AK-47 (Chinese type) and issuing threats for mass assassinations of Greek citizens, as well as arsons. Incidentally, there were several arson cases in Greek forests during the summer period, and also in FYROM and Serbia and a number of local pundits blamed -amongst other- Albanian extremist groups as responsible for such illicit actions.

The video where the Albanian group was firing rounds with Kalashnikov was clad in paramilitary summer uniforms, with the insignia of the “SS”, a reminder of the 21st Waffen – Gebirgs – Division der SS Skanderbeg that was established in April 1944. Forensic security analysts in Greece have assured that this video was made for the purposes of “psychological warfare” and should be related with the inner workings of Neo-Nazi Albanian tendencies of extremist groups that are scattered between Albania, Kosovo and FYROM.

In Greece, a group of Albanians residing in the Kalavryta region of North-Western Peloponnese and in the Menidi outskirt of Athens reposted the video through their Facebook accounts. Subsequent investigation by the Greek state security revealed that the group was in the process of evolving into an extremist one as well, by mimicking the Neo Nazi tendencies of those in the original video. Scores of photo material was confiscated and one person was deported for being without legal documentation in the country. What’s most important though is that a wide-scale mobilization in the security forces was enacted in order to disband other groups before they became a threat in terms of social stability.

Panetta Admits Difficulties Preventing No-fly Zone over Syria – SANA, Syria

Posted by satyrikon στο 14 Αυγούστου, 2012

Aug 14, 2012

WASHINGTON, (SANA)- U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has admitted the existence of difficulties that are preventing his country from establishing a no-fly zone over parts of Syria.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Panetta acknowledged that the U.S. administration discussed the option of a no-fly zone among other contingencies for interference in Syria.

«We have planned for a number of contingencies that could take place and one of those possible contingencies is developing a no-fly zone. But we’ve also pointed out difficulties in being able to implement that,’ Panetta told the AP.

He said the no-fly zone option is «not on the front burner as far as I know,» despite calls from the armed opposition for it.

Panetta said so far there is no political will to set up a no-fly zone over Syria, claiming however that the U.S. could successfully enforce a no-fly zone over Syria, but doing so would require a «major, major policy decision» that has not yet been made.

U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, said recently that she discussed with Turkey’s Foreign Minister a range of steps to provide help to the armed opposition in Syria, including the imposition of a no-fly zone, but noted that no decision has been made regarding this issue.

The US has contributed to inflaming the situation in Syria and instigating violence in it through the technical aid it has provided to the armed terrorist groups along with the moral support.

The U.S. Ambassador in Damascus went too far in transgressing against the diplomatic norms to get involved in the spreading of chaos and instigating rebellion against the authorities.

The gunmen in Syria were openly encouraged by the U.S. officials, which appeared clear when the U.S. State Department spokesperson called on them not to hand over their weapons in defiance of an amnesty decision issued by the Syrian authorities.

Recently, the U.S. administration announced millions of dollars in aid to the gunmen in terms of communications equipments and other forms of technical support that help them commit their crimes more easily.

Iraq’s oil flow to Turkey has been interrupted after a blast hit an oil pipeline in southeastern Turkish province of Mardin, authorities say.

The overnight blast hit the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline in Mardin Province close to Turkey’s border with Syria, AFP quoted an unnamed energy ministry official as saying on Monday.

The incident is believed to be an act of sabotage by the rebel Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK).

Firefighters have now put out the fire. Turkish authorities say repairs are expected to take up to 10 days.

The pipeline has been attacked several times in the past with the separatist PKK claiming responsibility for some of them. In July 21, Iraq’s oil flow to Turkey was cut for days after a fire erupted in the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline. Turkish officials blamed PKK rebels for the explosion.

The pipeline has also been repeatedly attacked by insurgents inside Iraq since the US-led invasion of the country in 2003.

The 970-kilometre pipeline runs from Iraq’s northern oil hub of Kirkuk to the port of Ceyhan on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast and pumps an estimated 450,000 to 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Land Destroyer: Turkey Plays NATO Attack Dog, Risks Future

Choosing Hegemony: Turkey, NATO and the Path to War
Eric Draitser

StopImperialism.com

August 1, 2012

As the destabilization of Syria has evolved over
the course of the last year and a half, what has become apparent to
political observers is the seeming incongruity of Turkey’s role in the
region.  While Ankara has attempted in recent years to establish itself
as a force for political and economic change and progress, it has also
assumed the role of a NATO attack dog, becoming a crucial weapon in the
arsenal of the Western imperialists.  While Turkey’s actions in Syria,
in particular the sponsorship and coordination of terrorists,
must be vigorously condemned, it is also important to note the
geopolitical and economic issues at stake for Turkey.  In doing so,
those of us around the world who reject imperialist meddling and
destabilization, who stand in opposition to Western hegemony and proxy
states, must help push Turkey back onto the path of peace and progress.

Turkey’s Role in Syria
Anyone who has followed the evolution of the
imperialist aggression against Syria has undoubtedly noted the insidious
role that Turkey has played.  From a diplomatic perspective, Ankara has
led the charge in demonizing the Assad regime,
saying that it “stands against the will of the Syrian people” and is
“killing its own people.”  However, the reality is that Turkey, along
with its collaborators in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon and elsewhere,
have done more to fan the flames of violence and instability than the
Assad regime ever could.
First and foremost, one must examine the overt sponsorship and hosting of international terrorists on Turkish soil.  As Reuters and other news outlets reported last week, Turkey has been operating a terrorist base in Adana, in the vicinity of US-NATO’s base at Incirlik.
It is from this base (and others, to be sure) that many of the
terrorists have been funneled into Syria.  Moreover, these terrorists
are not strictly Syrians trying to destabilize their own country.  In
fact, the majority of those operating from the Turkish base are from
Libya, Chechnya, Qatar, and elsewhere.  Essentially then, it is clear
that, at the behest of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, under the command and
control of the Turkish military and intelligence apparatus, the
destabilization of Syria has been led.  So, it would be fair to say that
Turkey has been at the forefront of the attack on its neighbor, acting
as a willing partner of NATO, complicit in countless horrendous war
crimes perpetrated against the people of Syria.
Hosting and operating terror networks is not the
only way in which Ankara has played an instrumental role in exacerbating
the conflict.  In an article entitled “War at Any Cost: Another Manufactured Pretext for War with Syria”,
I analyzed the way in which the Erdogan government attempted to use the
downing of one of its jets as a legitimization of war against its
neighbor.  In the ensuing weeks, and after careful investigation, it has
become clear that, at the very least, the Turkish jet had violated
Syrian airspace and that the military acted within the confines of
international law in their response.  It was the rhetoric of Erdogan,
Davotoglu and others that was more instructive however.  In the
aftermath of this event, Erdogan threatened military action against Syria,
claiming that the military might pose a threat.  Of course, this should
be taken to mean that Turkey would have taken upon itself the right to
interpret the military of a sovereign state acting within its own
borders as a threat, a clear violation of the principles of
international relations and law.  Essentially, the entire episode with
the downing of the jet demonstrated the fact that Erdogan and Co. were
willing to allow themselves to be used as NATO’s dagger against Assad.
Cover of "Path to War [Region 2]"
Cover of Path to War [Region 2]

One integral element of the destabilization
campaign has been the use of foreign “diplomatic” entities, primarily
the so-called Syrian National Council to act as the ostensible voice of
the opposition, while in fact being the mouthpiece of US-NATO. The SNC,
led by foundation-funded Western proxies such as Bassma Kodmani,
advocates regime change in Syria and supports the loose collection of
terror groups and death squads operating under the moniker of the “Free
Syrian Army” (FSA).  The Council has been hosted by Turkey, receiving
financial and diplomatic support from Ankara.  This dubious entity has
failed to unite the opposition, its one US-NATO delegated task, and has
instead become a lightning rod for criticism from much of the
international community.  It has become clear in recent months that the
SNC is, in fact, composed of a number of factions including the Muslim
Brotherhood, which has been implicated in weapons smuggling along the Syria-Turkey border in tandem with the CIA.
In addition, the SNC and their Turkish hosts have attempted to foment
chaos in Syria using discontented Kurdish elements, many of whom view
the SNC and the dismantling of the Syrian state as a prelude to Kurdish
independence. Essentially, the Syrian National Council (and, to a lesser
degree, the Free Syrian Army) could not exist were it not for overt
support, both financial and diplomatic, of the Turkish government.

What the Turkish government has called “support for
the Syrian people” has, in fact, become support for international
terror networks.  It is now public knowledge that Al Qaeda is operating
on Turkish soil near the Syrian border, using Turkey as a safe haven and
command center from which to launch incursions into Syria.  As Tony Cartalucci points out however, this trend is nothing new.  Cartalucci points to the famous New Yorker article by Seymour Hersh entitled “The Redirection”, in which Hersh states:
«To undermine Iran,
which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has  decided, in
effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon,
the  Administration has cooperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which
is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken
Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has
also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally
Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni
extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are
hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.»
Here we see the complicity of the United States and
its proxies in the region in organizing and unleashing Al Qaeda as a
weapon against its enemies.  Turkey has merely allowed itself to be made
into a staging ground for this type of destabilization, precisely what
the Assad regime has argued since the beginning of the conflict.  Aside
from Al Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and other terror networks have been mobilized in Turkey
in order to smash the Syrian state.  The attempt was to topple the
Assad regime and put, in its place, a government more amenable to US
designs for a new Arab World, one that would be subservient to Western
imperialism for another half century.  What has taken place however, has
been quite the opposite.  Instead of destroying Syria and the regime in
Damascus, it is the terrorists and their handlers in Ankara, Riyadh,
and Washington who have had to backpedal as Damascus has executed a
successful counter-terrorism strategy and maintained control of the
country.
Geopolitics and Rationalizing the Subversion

Many times since the destabilization of Syria
began, keen political observers have wondered what Turkey hopes to gain
from fomenting chaos over the border.  In addressing this perplexing
question, one begins to gain insight into more than Turkey’s reasons for
doing so; one begins to explore the Turkish mindset.  For years, Turkey
has maintained a “Zero Problems” policy with its neighbors, essentially
preferring to have relations with all regional players, from Israel to
Syria and Iran.  However, as the NY Times points out,
this strategy has changed in recent years, particularly under the
leadership of Erdogan and current Foreign Minister Davutoglu.  With them
at the helm, Turkey has instead chosen to allow itself to become NATO’s
enforcer, doing the dirty work of imperialism including diplomatic
attacks, terrorism, and countless other equally horrendous forms of
subversion.  In doing so, the ruling establishment in Ankara has bought
into NATO’s insidious tenets of hegemony and domination.
The Turkish government seems to have succumbed to a
form of hubris or, as some might argue, the hysteria of power.
Erdogan, Davutoglu and others have chosen to try to make Turkey into a
regional hegemon capable of dominating its neighbors economically,
politically, and militarily.  However, what they seem to have failed to
realize is that Turkey itself is a fragile state, created less than a
century ago and comprised of a number of ethnic groups at odds with each
other.  As author and historian Webster Tarpley has pointed out,
“Turkey has been bought off by the Anglo-American elite and created a
situation where the risk and possible rewards are entirely out of
proportion.”  Indeed, it would seem that the ruling establishment in
Ankara has made the proverbial “deal with the devil”, eschewing the
rational and sound “zero problems” policy in favor of an “endless
problems” policy espoused by NATO and its masters on Wall St. and in
London.

Playing a Dangerous Game
Turkey is risking quite a lot in attempting to
destroy the Assad regime and, with it, the Syrian state.  First and
foremost is the immediate blowback from the destruction of its
neighbor.  Undoubtedly, the Kurdish minority in Turkey, which makes up
more than a quarter of the total population, will then become more
difficult to manage, uniting with their Syrian cousins and beginning to
cause unrest inside Turkey which has, for decades, been fighting a
perpetual separatist movement in the Kurdish areas.  The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)
has been engaged in terrorist activities in Turkey for years and, with
the destruction of Syria, would likely emerge as a much more immediate
threat to the safety and security of Turkey.  Essentially then, Turkey’s
destabilization of Syria would, quite predictably, grow to destabilize
Turkey itself.
Secondly, Turkey risks very lucrative and
long-standing economic ties with Russia and China. Because of their
belligerent position vis-à-vis Syria, Turkey might jeopardize precisely
those relations which stand to benefit its economy and people most.
With regard to Russia, Turkey has important development deals that must
be understood.  Most prominent among these is the proposed Mersin Akkuyu nuclear power deal signed by Moscow and Ankara worth upwards of $20 billion.
This represents the largest single Russian investment anywhere outside
of the Russian Federation.  Moreover, this deal would move Turkey
forward in the fields of energy production and high technology, both of
which are crucial for the maintenance and building of an advanced
economy in the 21st Century.  Likewise, the South Stream Pipeline,
long seen as integral to the economic futures of both Russia and
Turkey, could be in jeopardy.  Additionally, the establishment of the
High Level Cooperation Council (UDIK) under Medvedev sought to bring
together the diplomatic and political leadership of the two countries to
jointly work toward building a common economic destiny.
This could be the beginning of tremendous economic and geopolitical
progress for Russia and Turkey, progress which is likely to be stymied
by Ankara’s incomprehensible folly in Syria.
Lastly, Turkey continues to look towards membership
in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), dominated by Russia and
China.  Because of the economic crisis in Europe and cloudy future of
the EU more generally, Turkey has put the brakes on possible full
integration with Europe and, instead, chosen to focus on the SCO.  Just this week, Erdogan explained that his country is looking more and more to integration into the SCO instead of the EU.
Naturally, Moscow and Beijing will not allow a NATO attack dog state
into the SCO and so, as with many other issues, Turkey risks their
opportunity to integrate themselves into the “developing world” of the
BRICS and SCO solely because they’ve allowed themselves to be hoodwinked
by US-NATO.
Turkey would do well to look at its own past to
find the wisdom that will light the path back to a sound foreign policy,
back to progress and reason.  Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey
once said, “Unless a nation’s life faces peril, war is murder.”  The
truth and meaning of this statement must not be underestimated.  In
fact, Turkey had to learn the hard way that the path to progress is
fraught with challenges; that notions of empire and hegemony must be
shed in order to better the lives of the people.  In this case, we must
think not only of the lives of Turkish people, but of Syrians as well
and, for that matter, all people of the world.  In so doing, it is
important to remember that no good can come to Turkey or the region if
they continue down the path of subversion, terrorism, and destruction in
Syria.  As Ataturk famously said, “Peace at home, peace in the world.”
Hopefully, these words are not entirely forgotten in Turkey today.

Hidden US-Israeli Military Agenda: “Break Syria into Pieces”

A timely article in the Jerusalem Post last month brings to the forefront the unspoken objective of US foreign policy, namely the breaking up of Syria as a sovereign nation state –along ethnic and religious lines– into several separate and “independent” political entities. The article also confirms the role of Israel in the process of political destabilization of  Syria.  The JP article is titled: “Veteran Kurdish politician calls on Israel to support the break-up of Syria‘ (by Jonathan Spyer) (The Jerusalem Post (May 16, 2012)

The objective of the US sponsored armed insurgency is –with the help of Israel– to “Break Syria into Pieces”.

The “balkanisation of the Syrian Arab Republic” is to be carried out by fostering sectarian divisions, which will eventually lead to a “civil war” modelled on the former Yugoslavia. Last month, Syrian “opposition militants” were dispatched to Kosovo to organize training sessions using the “terrorist expertise” of the US sponsored Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in fighting the Yugoslav armed forces.

Sherkoh Abbas, President of the US based Kurdistan National Assembly of Syria (KNA)  has “called on Israel  to support the break-up of Syria into a series of federal structures based on the country’s various ethnicities.” (Ibid)

One possible ”break-up scenario” pertaining to Syria, which constitutes a secular multi-ethnic society, would be the formation of separate and  “independent” Sunni, Alawite-Shiite, Kurdish and Druze states:   “We need to break Syria into pieces,” Abbas said. (Quoted in JP, op. cit., emphasis added).

“The Syrian Kurdish dissident argued that a federal Syria, separated into four or five regions on an ethnic basis, would also serve as a natural “buffer” for Israel against both Sunni and Shi’ite Islamist forces.” (Ibid.).

Ironically, while Islamist forces are said to constitute the main threat to the Jewish State, Tel Aviv is providing covert support to the Islamist Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The public statements of KNA leader Sherkoh Abbas in the wake of the State Department meeting suggest that the political fracturing of the Syrian Arab Republic along ethnic and religious lines as well as the creation of an “independent Kurdistan” were discussed. “State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner described [the meeting’s] purpose as part of ‘ongoing efforts… to help the Syrian [Kurdish] opposition build a more cohesive opposition to Assad.’”  (Ibid).

The KNA leader called upon Washington to support the creation of a separate Kurdish State consisting of  “an autonomous region in Syria; joining the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq – which borders the Kurdish region in Syria; or perhaps an even larger Kurdish state” [Greater Kurdistan].

“The Kurdish people, in all parts of Kurdistan, seek the right to form an independent Kurdish state. We can only achieve this cherished goal with the help of the western democracies, and first and foremost the U.S.” said Sherkoh Abbas. (Syria: An Alternative, Choice, Ekurd.net, May 22, 2012)

It is worth noting, in this regard, that the creation of a “Greater Kurdistan” has been envisaged for several years by the Pentagon as part of a broader “Plan for Redrawing the Middle East”.(See map 2 below)

This option, which appears unlikely in the near future, would go against the interests of Turkey, a staunch ally of both the US and Israel. Another scenario, which is contemplated by Ankara would consist in the annexation to Turkey of parts of Syrian Kurdistan. (See map above).

“Greater Kurdistan” would include portions of Iran, Syria, Iraq and Turkey as conveyed in Coronel  Ralph Peters (ret) celebrated map of “The New Middle East” (see below). (For Further details see Mahdi Nazemroaya’s November 2006 Global Research article).

Washington Promotes Kurdish Uprising: US “Kurdish” Threat Aimed at Turkey, Not Syria

Kurdish groups have thus far stayed out of NATO’s destabilization of Syria, US threats to arm and unleash Kurdish groups aims at coaxing Turkey to act.

The violence in Syria has been predominantly carried out by extremist groups,
tied to Al Qaeda, and organized, funded, staged, and armed by the United States, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, with Lebanon’s Hariri faction playing a major supporting role. Starting as early as 2007, it was reported that Syria’s notoriously violent Muslim Brotherhood was already receiving support from the West to begin undermining Syria as part of a grander strategy to break the Iranian-Syrian-Hezbollah sphere of influence across the region.

The Kurds, occupying territory straddling the Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, and Turkish borders, have for nearly as long, been fighting against Turkish forces, with US-occupied Iraq hosting several Turkish invasions aimed at crushing alleged Kurdish strongholds. Unlike Syria’s battle against admittedly foreign-funded and armed militants, many of whom are not even Syrian, the “international community” has been mute over Turkey’s military campaigns against Kurds both within and beyond its borders. And even throughout the duration of Syria’s current unrest, Turkey has continued conducting military operations against the Kurds.

Image: The Kurds occupy a region straddling the borders of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. While Kurds in northern Iraq have been relatively co-existing with other Iraqis, enjoying a degree of autonomy, and in Syria enjoying the protection of Assad along with Syria’s other minority groups, the Kurds in Turkey have been fighting a decades long battle against the government who has pursued them within and beyond Turkey’s borders. If Kurds are armed by the US, they will head to Ankara, not Damascus – thus Washington’s latest threat was made toward Turkey, not Syria.

Syria’s Kurdish population has remained neutral, as have most of Syria’s minority groups – fearing Libya-style consequences of allowing heavily armed, foreign-backed extremists to overrun their nation and either impose draconian restrictions upon them, or uproot and/or exterminate them all together, as the people ofLibya’s Tawargha have experienced. So then, Washington’s latest move, in addition to openly admitting they are facilitating the arming of Syria’s opposition in the midst of a UN brokered “ceasefire,” to invite “Kurds” from Syria for talks about arming and deploying them against President Bashar al-Assad, seems a very unlikely scenario. Indeed, Washington may very well arm Syria’s Kurds, but the direction they will ultimately go will be Ankara, not Damascus.

And even if Syria’s Kurds decided to rise up against the Syrian government for Western interests first, just as is happening in Libya, the weapons, cash, and support they use to do it with will inevitably end up being used against Turkey in the near future. In Libya, arms from NATO have already trickled into the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group’s (LIFG) affiliates across Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), and even into the hands of Nigeria’s Boko Haram.

Published by corporate-financier funded US policy think-tank, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, “The Syrian Dilemma: Turkey’s Response to the Crisis,” notes that Turkey is the ideal proxy for the West to carry forth its agenda, but also recognizes the quandary faced by Turkey. Turkey could not credibly intervene in Syria on “humanitarian grounds” while carrying out similar military campaigns within its own borders against the Kurds, and any incursion into Syria by Turkey could lead to a backlash from the Kurdish community across the region.

Turkey, which has been selected by US foreign policy think-tanks to create “safe havens” within Syria for NATO’s proxy forces, has yet to materialize any concrete plan of action. It may be that Turkey has decided against what is ultimately the first phase of a greater war against Iran, and in turn Russia and China. The US using Turkey as a proxy, will fight its enemies to the last Turk, after bleeding its own soldiers dry and bankrupting its taxpayers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Turkey’s hesitation, in Washington’s eyes, after the offering of several unpalatable carrots, seems to be now incurring the stick. If Turkey needed any more reasons to abandon a pro-Wall Street-London stance, this latest provocation by Washington should be it.

It is unlikely the West will have any success in triggering a Kurdish uprising in Syria. If Turkey assists the Syrian government in restoring order within its borders, it is also unlikely that any attempt by the West to arm the Kurds as a punitive action against Turkey will gain any traction. However, if Turkey assists the West in destabilizing, dividing, and destroying Syria, a lawless Libya-style staging ground for militant activities in all directions, including Ankara, will result. And if Libya’s “post-revolution” dystopia can serve as a warning to Turkey against advancing the West’s agenda, “pre-revolution” Libya where the West feigned rapprochement with Muammar Qaddafi before ultimately betraying him can serve as warning against Turkey for believing it serves as anything more than a lever with which the West seeks to use to advance its own exclusively beneficial interests.

Turkey sets up secret anti-Assad rebel base with Saudi Arabia and Qatar – reports — RT

Turkey is directing the rebel fight against Bashar Assad, after setting up a secret base on its border with Syria, with help from Qatar and Saudi Arabia. It devises tactics and supplies weapons for the uprising, according to Reuters sources.

It is unclear how long the base, described as the “nerve center” of the anti-Assad campaign has existed, and its location is given only as Adana, a city 60 miles from the border. Adana is home to Incirlik, a huge air base run jointly by Turkey and the United States, though it is not clear whether it was used for this operation.

«Three governments are supplying weapons: Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia,» said the source, reportedly based in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The source claims the base was set up at the request of Saudi deputy foreign minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al-Saud during his visit to Turkey, which was open to the idea. Turkey then took control of operations once the base was established.

“It’s the Turks who are militarily controlling it. Turkey is the main coordinator/facilitator. Think of a triangle, with Turkey at the top and Saudi Arabia and Qatar at the bottom.»

Disunited and badly trained when the uprising against President Assad began 18 months ago, recently Syrian rebels have had a string of successes against the supposedly better-trained and better-equipped regular soldiers. They have held down large parts of the country and advanced on the capital Damascus earlier in July. An audacious suicide attack last week took out four of the most senior security officials in the Assad circle.

These successes may have been made possible by the steady flow of arms from the Adana location, most of which appear to have been purchased illegally to cover the sponsors’ trails.

«All weaponry is Russian. The obvious reason is that the Syrian rebels are trained to use Russian weapons, also because the Americans don’t want their hands on it. All weapons are from the black market,” claims the source, which says arms are also obtained by looting loyalist weapons stores.

Ankara has enjoyed a difficult diplomatic relationship with Assad, whose family has been in charge in Syria for 40 years, and so immediately backed the uprising. At the same time, Ankara has staunchly denied arming the rebels. It has also condemned the suicide attack on ministers as an act of terrorism.

Meanwhile, the small but wealthy state of Qatar has already played a key part in helping topple the regime of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya last year, and was widely suspected of being involved in the Syrian civil war.

Although the three countries involved have long been accused of arming the rebels, this is the first time specific information has emerged about a concrete center of operations.

America looks on

The Adana operation is notable not only for who is involved, but also for who isn’t.

«The Americans are very hands-off on this,” alleges the source, “US intelligence are working through middlemen.”

The source claims Turkey has been “begging” for high-tech surveillance equipment, such as drones, but their pleas have gone unheard in Washington.

The United States has backed the rebels throughout the conflict. It has used utmost diplomatic pressure through the UN and conferences with allies to force Assad to leave his position, something the Syrian president says he will not do without negotiation. It has also provided money and expertise for the opposition.

However, government insiders have repeatedly expressed reservations about the fractious union of Assad enemies, many of whom are radical Islamists likely to be as opposed to Washington as Assad ever was. It has used utmost diplomatic pressure through the UN and conferences with allies to force the Syrian President to leave his position as an unconditional part of any peace settlement, something Assad says he will not do. Similarly, Syria has an impressive stockpile of chemical weapons that could pose a deadly terrorist threat in the wrong hands.

Dennis Ross, who advises Obama on Middle East policy, has summed US policy as «adopting the least bad option.»

Yet US involvement may now grow significantly, after Reuters reported that a recently adopted presidential directive will allow US foreign agencies to directly assist the rebels, perhaps even at Adana, although there are no plans to supply them with weapons, despite repeated requests.

«I have to say that we are also increasing our efforts to assist the opposition,» Secretary of State Hillary Clinton proclaimed publicly on Tuesday.

NATO Terrorists Execute Civilians While Waiting for Syrian Army

NATO-backed militants execute civilians as they await impending battle in Aleppo, Syria.

by Tony Cartalucci

July 26, 2012 – For many months, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has depicted the militants creating havoc across his nation as «armed gangs,» «foreign terrorists,» and simply just, «terrorists.» During a 2011 interview in Damascus with Barbra Walters, Walters feigned indignation when hearing these labels, insisting that these were people simply seeking «democracy» and «freedom.»

It turns out months later, it was President Assad who has been vindicated, and Walters’ disrespectful, curt condemnation exposed as the same brand of war propaganda that has mired the West in over a decade of ceaseless, bloody, bankrupting wars and interventions.

The FSA are Terrorists

AFP now reports that the so-called «Free Syrian Army» (FSA) militants who had attempted to overrun the city of Aleppo in Syria’s north on July 17, in coordination with an assassination bombing and a similar militant attack on Damascus, are now trapped in the city center, awaiting Syrian Army reinforcements expected to close in and neutralize them. An AFP correspondent embedded with the terrorists reported that, «two men, accused of belonging to pro-government «shabiha» militia, were summarily dispatched in the street, each with a bullet to the head.»

By this of course AFP means, two civilians were rounded up and shot in the head – killed in cold blood in the streets.

BBC’s Ian Pannell also rode in with FSA terrorists during the initial attack on Aleppo, which is by all accounts a pro-Army, pro-Syrian city. Pannell described scenes of FSA militants «seeking revenge» as they too rounded up men «suspected» of being «shabiha.» The men were unarmed, terrified, and had weapons discharged at their feet as they knelt on the ground. Pannell doesn’t tell us if this group of men were «dispatched» as well, preferring to paper over what appeared to be an atrocity in the making by stating, «there is little justice on either side.»

It appears the term suspected «shabiha» has become analogous of the Western media’s use of the term «African mercenaries» in Libya during NATO destabilization and regime change operations there last year. These «African mercenaries» were lynched, beheaded, shot, burned, and hacked to pieces, just as the FSA is now doing to suspected «shabiha.»

Photo: Images and reports eventually trickled out as NATO-backed genocide unfolded throughout Tripoli’s streets, indicating the destruction of infrastructure and the specific targeting of black Libyans written off by the corporate media as «suspected mercenaries.» Benghazi rebels have been long reported to harbor extremist ideologies and an intense ethnic & racial hatred.

….

It would later turn out these black Africans were not mercenaries, but citizens who had lived in Libya for generations fighting desperately for their lives against sectarian extremists intolerant of their complexion and creed. Likewise, suspected «shabiha» are Syrians unwilling or unable, because of their ethnicity or creed, to capitulate to roving bands of foreign-armed sectarian extremists.

The FSA Include Foreign-Fighters

CNN, whose Ivan Watson also accompanied FSA terrorists over the Turkish-Syrian border and into Aleppo revealed that indeed foreign fighters were amongst the militants. It was admitted that:

Meanwhile, residents of the village where the Syrian Falcons were headquartered said there were fighters of several North African nationalities also serving with the brigade’s ranks.

A volunteer Libyan fighter has also told CNN he intends to travel from Turkey to Syria within days to add a «platoon» of Libyan fighters to armed movement.

CNN also added:

On Wednesday, CNN’s crew met a Libyan fighter who had crossed into Syria from Turkey with four other Libyans. The fighter wore full camouflage and was carrying a Kalashnikov rifle. He said more Libyan fighters were on the way.

The foreign fighters, some of them are clearly drawn because they see this as … a jihad. So this is a magnet for jihadists who see this as a fight for Sunni Muslims.

CNN’s reports provide bookends to earlier admissions that large numbers of Libyan terrorists flush with NATO cash and weapons had headed to Syria with known terrorist commanders making the arrangements.

Western Media is Complicit in Covering Up War Crimes

Not only are these FSA militants committing atrocities, they are doing so in front of representatives of Western media, who are demonstratively excusing, covering up, or downplaying their war crimes. Additionally, these media personalities are attempting to downplay the significant implications of foreign-fighters crossing Syria’s borders and conducting armed attacks on a heavily populated city – implications that run contra to the West’s narrative regarding their support of the FSA against the Syrian state.

By doing so they’ve become accomplices, providing impunity for the actions of terrorists, and allowing the governments of the United States, Britain, France, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, an ignoble alliance, to continue fueling this violent, foreign-contrived band of militants. And by doing so, these media representatives have undermined their journalistic immunity, putting the lives of real journalists the world over at risk.

Image: An approximation of areas where fighting has been taking place in Aleppo, Syria. Clearly during the initial offensive by the FSA, they came in from 2 of the city’s main highways, both leading to the Turkish-Syrian border. It appears that a large number of fighters have been trapped inside the center of the city, surrounded by Syrian military forces. This was not an «uprising» but rather an invasion by armed militants from across the Turkish-Syrian border. It is unclear whether a significant number of additional militants are on their way.

….

And it will be this corps of professional deceivers who continue their efforts to pave way for wider NATO intervention to fulfill US ambitions to carve out «safe havens» in northern Syria form which to prolong the current bloodbath.

Perhaps this is why Russia – condemned by these very nations for its «inaction» in supporting the subversion of Syria – stated quite clearly that the West, specifically the US, was «justifying terrorism against the Syrian government.»

The West is hemorrhaging legitimacy and finds itself in an untenable position where it can neither go forward nor back without incurring tremendous, catastrophic consequences – consequences millions of people across the Middle East as well as across the West will pay for in blood and treasure. It should be remembered who exactly brought us to this precipice and why – corporate-financier interests, their stables of policy makers, and the corporate-media – all for the sake of pursuing narrow-minded, self-serving geopolitical hegemony.
